Kadeena Cox

Team GB paralympic cyclist Kadeena Cox approached BPO Clinic to find a solution to improve her cycling performance with issues caused by her Multiple Sclerosis. Kadeena was finding that during the latter stages of her races, she was struggling to maintain power through her right leg due to her drop foot. She had previously tried an off the shelf AFO but due to the excessive power she was creating, the AFO just simply was not strong enough. Also, Kadeena found comfort an issue as her carbon cycling shoes have little room for any orthotic device.

BPO Clinic visited Manchester Velodrome to meet with Kadeena and her team to see if we could improve her performance. After multiple discussions and trials together, we created a bespoke Carbon fibre device with the use of a PDE strut and BOA fastening system. This allowed kadeena to have no orthotic intervention in her actual shoes. BPO clinic developed a carbon sole plate that attached externally to the pitch of Kadeena’s cycling shoes.

The device was a huge success, helping Kadeena to gold after winning the C1-5 750m team sprint in the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
